Andarion History LiveTheLeague com by Sherrilyn Kenyon Nomenclature Caste ndaria is ruled by a rigid Caste Blood system Everyone is placed at birth in their category and most remain there for the duration of their lives A Immigrants are placed in Caste Clan whenever they are granted Andarion citizenship either through marriage adoption immigration or slavery which is currently very rare Marriage known as Unification isn t seen as a religious ceremony It is strictly civil and is viewed as a joining of lineages As such the high Caste bloodlines take it extremely seriously as they ve no wish to dilute the purity of their genetic code Whenever two high Caste bloodlines merge the couple takes the higher more prestigious surname as theirs Lowers or lesser Castes aren t so concerned about their blood clan purity and so marriage Unification to them can be as simple as proclaiming themselves married partners before others After Unification many hyphenate their surnames others keep their own or choose which of their surnames they ll use for themselves as a couple and for any progeny they may have That being said there are some who have a Caste so low that they are legally barred from Andarion Unification and from producing offspring Slaves Outcasts lack Vest and unclaimed bastards orphans Violation of that law is considered a felony and it carries a stiff jail penalty in some cases involving a relationship with a high Vest citizen or Outcast it can carry a death sentence As with any civilization there are thousands of surnames used Most stem from the original Castes clans that were set up in the beginning of recorded Andarion history and they are a corruption of those hallowed names The higher the Caste the more pure the surname and the more rigid the laws regarding the use of that surname One noted exception is Hauk While only the true Hauks can be called War Hauks Hauk itself is one of the most common surnames in the Andarion empire Additionally Andarion ID cards civilian and military are color coded so as to allow anyone who glances at them to know instantly the main Caste category the citizen falls into It is a death sentence for anyone to be caught misrepresenting their Caste or using a name they re not legally entitled to

4 LiveTheLeague com Should Jayce and Livia have more children their Caste would be styled as T 3 this first number in rank signifies the parents place in succession then their Birth Order Number OTHER ROYAL FAMILY MEMBERS Because Cairistiona s mother is still alive but no longer in power she would be styled as Mar izah Former Queen Eriadne of the Esteemed Blood Clan of eton Anatole Most Sovereign is removed because Eriadne is no longer in line for the throne If Cairie s father still lived he d be Mar izan Former King Faran of the Esteemed Blood Clan of eton Anatole he was born an ezul Nykyrian but assumed his wife s higher Caste name when they Unified Their Caste would be written as w T 1 Eriadne and w TGT 1 Faran GT Ger Tarra Ger Tarran is used to designate Unified couples In the case of Caste it is given to the one male or female who marries into a lineage CHILDREN OF THE REIGNING MONARCH The Andarion succession Caste was previously explained But while the Caste level itself is rigid the individual placement within each family is fluid As more children are born individuals lose their personal rank to their siblings and their siblings children But in the event of death or disowning their Caste ranking can be improved Case in point Jullien eton Anatole At birth Jullien was ranked as T 2 2 and styled as Tiziran Jullien of the Most Sovereign Blood Clan of eton Anatole by Sherrilyn Kenyon When Nykyrian was believed to be dead he was then moved up in rank to T 3 and styled as Tizi Jullien of the Most Sovereign Blood Clan of eton Anatole Now that Nykyrian has been returned to the succession record and has fathered so many children Jullien is removed from succession and is now styled as Tiziran Jullien of the Esteemed Blood Clan of eton Anatole x T 2 Any of Cairistiona s children other than her blood heir would all hold the Prince Princess Tiziran Tizirah title and use of the Sovereign Blood Clan of eton Anatole They would have added to their Caste designation so long as they remain somewhere in the line of succession x is used for those who ve been removed Most Sovereign is reserved for the most direct heirs only Jullien s firstborn male or female would be allowed to also use of the Esteemed Blood Clan of eton Anatole but any child after that firstborn would be downgraded to a simple Blood Clan of eton Anatole and their subsequent grandchildren would be styled as Anatole only So long as they remain in the noble blood Caste they would have a noble designator of The only ones who are allowed to use the full Esteemed Blood Clan title with all designators are the eldest born in every generation It s considered a birthright and is sacred in Andarion society

by Sherrilyn Kenyon 5 LiveTheLeague com 2 NOBLE POLITICIAN fter the Oksanans attempted to invade Andaria the tribes clans came together to set up a united planetary system of government so as to dissuade anyone else from attempting to conquer them In true Andarion fashion they held a martial contest that established the first twenty four prominent Caste families that would rule over and protect their race from the rest of the Ichidian Universe A The Caste order that exists to this day was determined by where the originating ancestor placed in that contest With one noted exception The first Dancer Hauk won the entire event But when they moved to crown him king he refused Instead he traded lots with Anatole who became the first king of a united Andaria and the first Caste family of the sovereign bloodline Dancer Hauk took the first Caste standing of the military Because of this some still see the Hauks as being on par and equal to the Anatoles It s something that has caused an ongoing feud between the two families that exists to this day It also places the Hauks in a unique Caste position in that they even though they re deemed a military Caste outrank all of the nobility except for the direct ruling monarchy Whereas normal military Caste families are usually designated with a the Hauks who are directly descended from Dancer Hauk alone have a special designator of to mark them as members of the Warring Blood Clan of Hauk or the informal War Hauk Remembering that War Hauks outrank the noble clans the highest ranking Andarion political surnames are 1 Anatole 7 Borrah 2 Nykyrian 8 Derya 3 Terronova 9 Amirah 4 Terisool 10 Eser 5 Verisa 11 Hakazah 6 Aysu 12 Gakan All noble Castes are designated with and written as family Caste rank Generation Number Birth Order The top twelve are written out as of the Most Esteemed Blood Clan of FAMILY NAME Those who are noble but not one of the twelve lineages drop Most from their formal name So Parisa who is a cousin to Queen Cairistiona would be styled as Parisa of the Most Esteemed Blood Clan of Anatole 1 1 3 So long as she remains in the noble Caste the designator is permanent as well as the first 1 as it stands for the Anatole lineage place as the highest ranking noble family however only the ruling family can use eton with Anatole noble Anatole families use ezul or nothing The next 1 is a fluid ranking as that would designate which of the currently living generations she is If her

by Sherrilyn Kenyon 6 LiveTheLeague com parents were still alive she d be marked as a 2 If they were alive as well as their parents she d be a 3 But since her parents and grandparents are dead she s now the first generation of her bloodline Likewise the final number would change if her older brother or sister were to die Another thing that is different with the noble families is that their surname is preceded by eton or ezul but only if they are of the most direct bloodline Eton as stated earlier means of the firstborn son of and ezul means of the firstborn daughter of They are always written with a lowercase e One does not rank higher than the other as both sons and daughters are equally valued They were merely put in place in the beginning of the noble houses as a way of paying homage to the heir of that house who created and established the most direct bloodline Hence the original Terronova had a daughter as his eldest and so his family is styled as ezul Terronova Anatole s eldest was male and so his descendents are eton Anatole Both are a holdover from the tribal days when all Andarions used ezul or eton with the parents given name Variants of these noble names are widely popular as the noble clans are more than four thousand years old and many generations have splintered off It s very common to start dropping or adding letters to these surnames for subsequent generations as they fall from their noble Caste into one of the other rankings Noble Caste can be maintained by only the eldest child or by marriage Of the nobles whose surnames are no longer part of the great twelve they are designated with a lower in their ranking and they only have three numbers not four So they would be Caste ranked as Generation Number Birth Order Number instead of Family Rank Generation Number Birth Order Number 3 WARRIOR MILITARY fter literally drawing straws it was determined that the Warrior clans would be behind the noble clans in terms of Caste But because the Andarions are such a warring race there is much blurring between the top two Castes and many citizens view the military families as higher ranking than the noble ones A Marriage between the top three has also blurred that rigid division So while they are technically split and relegated they re not so rigid in practical use Military families seek marriage with the noble families and vice versa And anyone who can marry into either the Warring Blood Clan of Hauk or the eton Anatoles does so with great gusto Highest Caste warrior families are 1 Hauk 7 Pinara 2 Batur 8 Xu 3 Yetur 9 Ilkin 4 Vagmur 10 Nazaru 5 Tolaya 11 Zerkanah 6 Sanaiz 12 Zeki As with the noble families only the eldest of each generation can use the styled of the Warring Blood Clan of FAMILY NAME But unlike the noble line there are two other designators for the military families They can also be styled as of the Warring Blood Kin of FAMILY NAME and of the Winged Blood Clan Kin of FAMILY NAME
